Following a general surgery residency in Santa Barbara, Dr. McGillivray completed a colorectal fellowship at the Ferguson Clinic in Grand Rapids, Michigan, leading to board certification in both general and colorectal surgery. Dr. McGillivray has a special interest in anorectal disorders of both benign and malignant natures, inflammatory bowel diseases, and operations for ulcerative colitis. He also has extensive experience in the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease, utilizing the procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids (PPH Procedure) as well as by infrared coagulation (IRC). Dr. McGillivray is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon Rectal Surgery (FASCRS). He was recruited to join the Association of South Bay Surgeons in 1998.
