Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allows doctors to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with conventional techniques.  Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery – procedures performed through tiny incisions, using miniaturized surgical instruments. This can help decrease blood loss, have less pain, have smaller less noticeable scars, and have quicker recovery with shorter hospital stays compared to open procedures.

We use the da Vinci surgical system that provides high definition, magnified 3D visualization, wristed instrumentation for flexibility and control, and motion scaling to enhance precision during surgical operations. The surgeon controls the camera and the instruments on the robot from a console located in the operating room.  Every movement the surgeon makes with the master controls is replicated precisely by the robot.  Because of the console's design the surgeon's eyes and hands are perfectly aligned with his view on the surgical site, minimizing surgeon fatigue.  The ultimate effect is to give the surgeon maximal control in a minimally invasive environment.

There are numerous factors which determine if a patient is a candidate for robotic surgery.  Robotic assisted surgery may not be right for everyone.  Our surgeons make sure your patients are aware of their surgical options.

Dr. Camel has completed over 200 surgical Robotic procedures including:  Robotic fundoplications for reflux, Hiatal Hernia repair, single port Cholecystectomies (only 1 small scar in the umbilicus), Ventral/Incisional and Inguinal Hernia repairs, and colon surgery.
